Bogus Basin cancels New Year's day fireworks, torch parade

Due to staffing shortages and particularly cold temperatures, Bogus Basin is canceling the New Year's day torch parade, fireworks show and other planned activities.

"The main reason is staffing," said Susan Saad, director of community and customer relations. "All of our employees complete a daily health screening. When they exhibit any signs that could be COVID related, we ask them to have a COVID test taken. This has resulted in an uptick of people being out. Fortunately, our lifts and primary mountain operations have not been affected.

“We truly regret having to make the decision to cancel this fun tradition," Saad said. "This event typically draws a large non-skiing and snowboarding crowd who may be unprepared to spend time outside in the extreme cold.”

Forecasts predict temperatures in the low single-digits on Saturday evening.

Bogus Basin will continue regular operations, and lifts are scheduled to run between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday.
